Last weekend Roger & Mika attended an auction for Forest Park Elementary school. The earlier part of the evening had a silent auction and that was followed by a sit-down dinner with a live auction. Roger & Mika did their part to contribute during the silent auction and picked up a photo sitting, some taekwondo lessons for Nisa and a one-night stay at a B&B in downtown Palo Alto. :-)
But the real excitement came with the live auction. There were some nice travel packages and wine collections that all did moderately well, but the classroom art was what left many jaws dropping. Each classroom put together a creative art piece; all very nice pieces of work. Any how, the bidding for these art pieces started at $500 and would usually sell somewhere between $800 and $2000. There were two pieces that got bid up even higher... one going for $4100 and the other for $7000! :-O Needless to say it was an exciting, emotional evening, especially in the context of the economy and all of the cuts being made to Oregon's public schools.
The big event this weekend was Maile's sleep study. Maile has been breathing heavily at night for the past six weeks or so. At first we thought it was related to allergies or the flu, but since it persisted we brought her in for a formal sleep study. The sleep study was conducted at a Marriott Residents Inn in downtown Portland. They hooked up her up with about 25 wires and most of those were to her head. But Maile did a great job and didn't seem to mind the wires. The key was to put her "Dora Explorer Super Babies" DVD in the TV and then she completely zoned out. ;-)
In weather, we had some more snow this week at our house, but fortunately no snow days. Hopefully we'll be removing our snow tires soon.
Maile's cute phrase lately is "me too!" For example, when you ask her if she would like some oatmeal she responds, "Me too!"
And finally, here is Nisa's quote of the week. Nisa was describing her gym's trampoline to Doc when she said, "It's like a jumpy house without the house."
Aloha, Alaska!
