While all is good in Maui, we got off to a rough start on the mainland. Roger & Mika pulled their typical all-nighter to get the bags packed and we left for the airport just after 4am. As if that wasn't enough, Nisa had some stomach issues just as we were about to board. Fortunately Nisa hung in there so that we were able to catch our flight.
Anyhow, after getting settled into our place on Saturday, we went to Grandma Pietra's and Papa Maxie's for a Sunday brunch. The food was plentiful, the sangria was flowing and a good time was had by all. We arrived around 11am and left just before dinner time.
On Monday we had a great beach day, then had lunch by the pool. Ellie & Nisa were in the water pretty much all day. In the evening the girls did some craft projects at the resort.
Tuesday we went whale watching & snorkeling with Auntie Susie. We have never seen whales like we did on Tuesday. The big highlight was a baby whale playing and jumping out of the water near our boat. Roger caught it on film and Mika got all teary as she is now nearing her third trimester. :-) Another highlight was we saw some dolphins jumping through the same waters that the whales were in. This was our best whale watching trip by far. For the snorkeling, Maile wasn't into it and Nisa was a little scared about being in deep waters. But Ellie did a great job with her snorkel mask and spent a good 30 minutes out in the water.
Wednesday morning Roger went out for some surfing lessons and had a great time. After surfing, the family was down on the beach enjoying the surf and playing in the sand. We had some boogie boards for the day and Nisa only came out of the water for lunch and when it was time to leave.
Wednesday evening we went to the Hard Rock Cafe for dinner. We saw a great sunset and the food was pretty tasty. Then Uncle Francis and Auntie Ella took us to see Ulalena. Ulalena is a theater performance that takes the audience through the history and mythology of Maui. It was an amazing performance.
Thursday was another beach day. Also the girls spent some more time with Grandma Pietra and Papa Maxie and then watched one of Susie's hula lessons.
Roger played golf on Friday with Uncle Alan and his buddies at Waiehu Golf Course. The golf course is right on the water and has to be one of the most scenic public courses in the US. Later that evening Roger and Mika went to Mama's Fish House up on the North Shore.
Saturday was Grammie's last day on the island so we had another great beach day, a farewell lunch and then spent some time with Grandma Pietra & Papa Maxie.
On Sunday after haniging out at the beach we went to the aquarium with Auntie Susie and then packed our bags for Portland.
After Maile woke up in Portland on Tuesday she cried, "I want to go to the other house! I want to go to the Hawaii House!" :-)
