Greetings from Minnesota. We've been staying here for the past week visiting with Mika's family and having a great time. The girls love staying at Chris & Teya's house with all of the open space to play outside. One night we even camped outside in tents. Of course Roger was still up at sunrise the next morning by the campfire with his laptop, but it was still a great time. :-)
The past weekend we went to Brian & Betsye's wedding in Aitkin, MN, and stayed in an old log cabin right on a lake. We did lots of boating, had some great BBQ, and partook in some spirited ladder ball contests. Nisa was a natural on these mini-kayaks at the cabin and would give people rides out to these buoys and back with no problem. In contrast, when Ellie tried to give Roger a similar "tour" she just spun him in circles about a half-dozen times. :-)
Maile and Cousin Lucas were able to catch-up on things as only a couple of two-year olds can. They had a great 'grunt exchange' where they would take turns exchanging about a dozen or so short grunts. Their other favorite dialogue is when they take turns yelling "Mine!" about whatever toy seems to be popular that day. They are very cute together.
Cousin Noah is at the perfect age for repeating everything the adults say with such an innocent little voice. Needless to say he provided many laughs at the cabin around bathroom humor , such as announcing to the cabin at 7am that someone needed to go poop and then later walking over the the bathroom and innocently observing, "Mommy, I smewl something." :-)
After the weekend in Aitkin we went rock climbing in Red Wing, MN, over by the Mississippi. Everyone had a lot of fun, but the real star was Ellie who really didn't show any fear of the heights. She wasn't a daredevil or anything, but she did a great job especially for her first time out.
That's all for now. Looking forward to getting back to Portland and having the kids start school & soccer this week.
Aloha, Alaska!
